1756-MVI PLC Module
Allen-Bradley 1756-MVI is a multi-vendor interface module for ControlLogix systems. This module provides a serial port of the ControlLogix system for applications that require a modem and SCADA. The 1756-MVI software package contains the following components: a 1756-MVI module, three serial adapter cables, and an installation manual. The 1756-MVI module can be installed in any slot of the ControlLogix chassis. Multiple modules can also be installed in the chassis. The 1756-MVI factory setting jumper is in the "sitting" position, which means that the module has enabled port 1 booting through the following configuration: baud rate 19200, no parity bit, 8 data bits and 1 stop bit. By placing jumpers in the RS-232, RS-422, or RS-485 position of each port, you can enable communication on port 2 or port 3.
The three matching serial cables are part of the 1756-MVI software package. Each cable has an RJ-45 jack on one end and a DB-9 male connector on the other end. The RJ-45 jack on each cable should be plugged into the corresponding sockets marked PRT1, PRT2, and PRT3 on the module. The module can be configured from a terminal connected to the console port (PRT1). 1756-MVI is sensitive to ESD. Precautions against static electricity should be taken, including touching grounded objects to discharge static electricity, wearing a grounded wrist strap, working in a static-free area, and avoiding contact with module components. In addition, to prevent arcing, modules can only be installed or removed when the chassis power is off. The 1756-MVI consumes 0.8 amperes of current at 5.1 volts DC and 3 mA at 24 volts. The power consumption is 4 watts. The operating temperature of the module is 32 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit, and the storage temperature is -40 to 185 degrees Fahrenheit. The acceptable range of relative humidity is 5% to 95%.
