ABB PM683 Processor Module

The PM863 High Integrity Controller is a part of ABB’s AC 800M High-Integrity system, designed for applications requiring high availability and functional safety. This controller enables the integration of safety and business-critical process control in a single unit without compromising safety integrity, meeting IEC 61508 and TÜV certification standards.

Controller Composition and Features

The CPU board includes the following components:

• Microprocessor and RAM memory

• Real-time clock

• LED indicators

• INIT push button

• CompactFlash interface

The PM863 base plate is equipped with:

• Two RJ45 Ethernet ports (CN1, CN2) for Control Network connection

• Two RJ45 serial ports (COM3, COM4)

• COM3: RS-232C with modem control signals

• COM4: Electrically isolated, used for configuration tool connection

The controller also supports CPU redundancy, covering:

High Integrity Functionality

To enable high-integrity operation, the controller requires:

• SM812 module

• SIL-certified software

This combination allows upgrading non-critical control schemes to SIL-certified systems simply by adding a plug-in SM81x module and applying the appropriate configuration.
