The Process Manager (PM), Advanced Process Manager (APM), and High-Performance Process Manager (HPM) are Honeywell’s leading TotalPlant Solution (TPS) system control and data acquisition devices for industrial process applications. They represent a powerful combination of cost-effective Honeywell controllers which can be applied to solve abroad range of industrial process control problems.

The PM, APM, and HPM offer highly flexible I/O (input/output) functions for both data monitoring and control. One of the unique features of this family of controllers is its common set of Input/Output Processors (IOPs) and Field Termination Assemblies (FTAs). All IOPs and FTAs are usable by all three controllers (with only minor exceptions).

The new controller should meet the conditions

With the continuous development of computer control technology, the programmable controller has been widely used and become an important part of automation technology. A programmable logic controller (PLC) first appeared in the United States. In 1968, General Motors (GM), and Automobile manufacturing company in the United States, put forward the requirements for developing a new controller and proposed that the new controller should meet the following ten conditions from the perspective of users:

(1) Simple programming, program can be modified on the spot;

(2) Easy to maintain, preferably plug-in;

(3) Reliability is higher than that of the relay control cabinet;

(4) The volume is smaller than the relay control cabinet;

(5) Data can be directly sent to the management computer;

(6) It can compete with the relay control cabinet in cost;

(7) The input can be 115V AC (i.e. us grid voltage);

(8) The output is above ac 115V and 2A, which can drive the solenoid valve directly;

(9) During the expansion, the original system only needs minor changes;

(10) User program storage capacity can be expanded to at least 4KB.
