Commercial off-the-shelf controllers used by the committee for nuclear 1E applications, a large number of TÜV-certified functional safety experts and engineers, have deployed and obtained patented triple module redundancy (TMR) technology worldwide.

The Tricon system consists of one or more chassis components containing I/O and communication modules. The first chassis of the system is called the main chassis (Type 8110). To expand the system, you can add an expansion chassis (model 8111 or 8121) and/or RXM chassis (model 8112).

I/O Expansion Bus

Each chassis has six RS-485 I/O expansion bus ports on the upper left corner of the backplane. Channels A, B and C have two sets of ports, providing two triple serial communication paths between racks. A set of cables is required for each expansion chassis and RXM chassis that houses the main RXM module group. The standard length of the cable kit (type 9000) is 6 feet. If necessary, longer cables can be used.

The triplicate I/O bus transfers data between the I/O module and the main processor at a speed of 375 kilobits per second. The communication bus runs between the main processor and the communication module at a speed of 2 megabits per second.
